ULTRA TOUGH pH/ORP Smart Sensor

The ULTRA TOUGH pH/ORP Smart Sensor from Turtle Tough is built for aggressive media and extremely tough applications. Break-resistant glass, a solid-state Kynar reference and impact- and chemical-resistant Radel body plastics give accurate, stable measurement across a wide pH range and at extreme temperatures.

With Direct Smart Sensor (DSS) technology, the sensor outputs an open-source Modbus RTU (RS-485) signal that connects directly to a PLC, SCADA or DCS without proprietary hardware. Calibration data, performance history and diagnostics are stored on the sensor, so it can be cleaned and calibrated offline and hot-swapped in the field.

FAQ

What is a pH sensor?

A pH sensor measures how acidic or alkaline a liquid is. A pH-sensitive glass electrode develops a small voltage that changes with the hydrogen ion activity of the solution, and this is compared against a stable reference electrode. The difference is converted to a pH value, with temperature compensation applied because the electrode response changes with temperature.

What is the difference between pH and ORP?

pH measures acidity or alkalinity, while ORP (oxidation-reduction potential) measures the ability of a solution to oxidize or reduce, reported in millivolts. ORP sensors use a platinum measuring element instead of pH glass and are commonly used to monitor disinfection (such as chlorine) and chemical oxidation or reduction processes.

What are the advantages of the ULTRA TOUGH pH/ORP sensor?

  • Break-resistant glass – resists impact, abrasion and high-velocity solids, and can be cleaned aggressively without fear of breakage
  • Solid-state Kynar reference – non-porous and highly resistant to process contamination for long service life
  • Chemical resistance – designed for acid/fluoride, ammonia, cyanide, chlorine and sulphide gas environments
  • Anti-fouling – large open geometry and coat-resistant materials suit high-flow locations
  • Smart sensor – stores calibration, performance history and diagnostics on-board for hot-swap maintenance
