ULTRA TOUGH Dissolved Oxygen Galvanic Smart Sensor

The ULTRA TOUGH Dissolved Oxygen Galvanic Smart Sensor from Turtle Tough is a rugged, proven solution for industrial, municipal, environmental, aquaculture and mining applications. Its high-stability thick membrane is designed for abrasive slurries, high levels of organic and biological content, high turbidity and viscosity.

The sensor provides up to one year between calibrations in clean water, with membrane life of up to five years. Direct Smart Sensor technology delivers a Modbus RTU output and stores performance history and diagnostics on-board, so sensors can be cleaned and calibrated offline and hot-swapped.

FAQ

What is a dissolved oxygen sensor?

A dissolved oxygen (DO) sensor measures the amount of oxygen dissolved in water, reported in ppm (mg/L) or as percent saturation. DO is a key control parameter in wastewater aeration, aquaculture, environmental monitoring and many industrial processes.

How does a galvanic dissolved oxygen sensor work?

In a galvanic sensor, oxygen diffuses through a membrane into an electrolyte, where it reacts at the electrodes. The cell generates its own signal in proportion to the oxygen present, so no external polarizing voltage or warm-up period is needed. Because the cell has a true zero, only a single span calibration in air is required.

What are the advantages of the ULTRA TOUGH galvanic DO sensor?

  • Thick-wall membrane gives very high stability, low drift and high durability in aggressive service
  • True zero – only an in-air slope (span) calibration is needed; no calibration solutions required
  • Simple membrane and electrolyte replacement for a very low ongoing cost of ownership
  • Insensitive to hydrogen sulphide – ideal for high-sulphide media
  • Corrects for temperature, pressure and salinity effects on % saturation
  • Quick-connect plugs eliminate hard-wiring and allow instant hot-swap
