Smart Digital Turbidity Sensor – Auto-Clean Dual IR Beam

The Turtle Tough Smart Digital Turbidity Sensor combines smart sensor technology with industry-leading optical measurement. A dual infrared beam (90° + 135°) and a high-quality quartz lens deliver high accuracy, while a fully automatic wiper keeps the lens clean and reduces maintenance.

The 316L stainless steel body is corrosion-resistant and IP68 rated for full immersion, with a titanium version available for seawater or highly corrosive environments. Typical applications include water quality monitoring, municipal water, industrial process and cooling water, activated carbon filter effluent and membrane filtration effluent.

FAQ

What is a turbidity sensor?

A turbidity sensor measures the cloudiness of a liquid caused by suspended particles. Readings are given in NTU (nephelometric turbidity units) or, for higher solids loads, converted to total suspended solids (TSS) in mg/L.

How does a dual IR beam turbidity sensor work?

The sensor shines infrared light into the sample and measures the light scattered by suspended particles, following the ISO 7027 infrared method. Using infrared light means the reading is not affected by the colour of the liquid or by external visible light, and measuring scattered light at two angles improves accuracy across the range.

What are the advantages of the auto-clean turbidity sensor?

  • Dual IR beam (90° + 135°) for high measurement accuracy
  • Automatic wiper prevents build-up on the lens; cleaning interval set to suit the application
  • Stable near-monochromatic infrared source avoids interference from colour and visible light
  • Built-in luminosity compensation
  • High-quality quartz lens for superior infrared transmission
  • Built-in diagnostics simplify sensor management
